First off, before we get into the nitty-gritty of what the next steps are after selecting your Oracle Cloud ERP, let us take a moment to say, “Congratulations!” Choosing a new ERP is a difficult, stressful process, yet you’ve successfully navigated that hurdle and now you’re ready to move on.
But how exactly do you move on? What’s the next step?
Let’s talk about that.
In general, there are 3 steps to the migration process, many of which will probably sound familiar after your selection process.
Let’s start with a quick definition of migration, because many business leaders don’t quite understand how a cloud migration works.
Similar to an on-premises migration, in which you move all your data to an entirely new ERP, a Cloud ERP migration includes an analysis of how your ERP is used in your enterprise and determines if you need customizations, moves the data from one place to another, and provides ongoing support for your new solution.
So, let’s talk about each of these stages in detail.
In the discovery process, your Oracle Cloud consultant will deeply investigate how you’re currently using your Oracle ERP (or other on-premises ERP solution). They’ll find answers to questions such as:
By answering these questions, your Oracle consultant will be able to determine what you need for your Oracle ERP Cloud to serve the needs of all your departments. After that, the consultant will be able to start creating a step-by-step procedure that tells them in what order they need to “physically” move the data.
In addition, these investigations can help your consultant determine whether you actually require all the data in your ERP on a daily basis, or if you can archive some of it in online cloud storage solutions to reduce your cloud storage requirements and overall costs.
Once your consultant understands what kind of a setup you need, they’ll get to work on the actual nuts and bolts of the migration process. This includes:
As you can see, you don’t start using your cloud solution immediately after migration – instead, your consultant will stress-test your solution to make sure it can handle your day-to-day operations with ease. Testing helps your Oracle consultant identify potential bugs or errors, so they can fix them before your “go-live,” which us when your new cloud ERP is officially “switched on.”
After your go-live, a celebration is definitely in order, because, WOW! You did it! You’re using a new cloud ERP!!
Unlike with an on-premises ERP, your Oracle Cloud ERP implementation process doesn’t end with the go-live. In fact, your migration is only the beginning of an exciting process of business evolution called “continuous optimization,” which is one of the greatest benefits of using a cloud ERP instead of an on-premises solution.
To drive continuous optimization, you can count on ongoing support from your Oracle Partner, which can include:
As you can see, there are many steps to the Oracle Cloud ERP migration process – and your ERP is too important to your business for you to risk an error in any of these steps.
